Bio:
Three-year starter who finished second on the team with 93 tackles (4.5 for loss) in 2016, adding one interception, one sack and five pass breakups. Named Honorable Mention All-AAC as a junior after making 93 tackles (4.5 for loss) with three interceptions, one forced fumble and eight pass breakups. Sophomore totals include 121 tackles (3.5 for loss), two interceptions, one forced fumble and six PBUs.
Pos:
One-time highly rated safety prospect with poor size and speed numbers. Instinctive, shows a good head for the ball and remains disciplined with assignments. Nicely anticipates the action, tracks the pass in the air and covers a good amount of area in center field. Keeps the action in front of him, quickly makes his way to the ball carrier and sacrifices his body to come away with the tackle. Nicely adjusts or redirects to defend the throw and wraps up ball handlers.
Neg:
Lacks next-level speed. Marginal quickness in his game. Not a secure tackler.
Analysis:
Edwards is a solid football player who was graded as a potential second-day pick entering the season but lacks the pure size and athleticism for middle-round consideration. He possesses enough skill to line up in dime packages on Sundays but is a prospect who must stand out on special teams.
