Named First Team All-SEC as a redshirt sophomore in 2015, posting 103 tackles (16.5 for loss), 4.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. Started the final five games of the 2014 season and made 67 tackles (6.5 for loss) with 1.5 sacks.
Dominant run-defending linebacker with a large upside. Breaks down well, fires up the field defending the run and quickly gets outside to the flanks to cut off the corners. Goes sideline to sideline and shows excellent range along with the ability to immediately alter his attack or change direction. Plays with tremendous quickness and explosion and shows a burst of speed in a straight line as well as laterally. Effectively uses his hands to protect himself or disengage from blocks, makes plays in the open field and consistently wraps up tackling. Gets depth on pass drops and works to make plays in coverage.
Prone to out-of-control play. At times gets sucked up the field and left out of position. Occasionally looks like he’s just running around the field doing nothing.
Cunningham offers the size, athleticism and upside to develop into a starting linebacker at the next level. He’ll be a force on Sundays if he plays a more disciplined brand of football and completes his game.
