Pos:
Intense, disruptive defensive lineman with the versatility to be used at several spots up front. Instinctive, tough and makes plays in every direction of the field. Fluidly slides down the line, displays good change of direction and effectively works his hands throughout the action. Fires off the snap with an explosive first step, jolts blockers with terrific hand punch and flashes power up the field. Solid open-field tackler who displays a closing burst and better-than-average speed off the edge. Rarely off his feet and plays with balance and body control.
Neg:
Occasionally struggles to make plays against the run. Not a natural pass rusher or top-flight athlete.
Analysis:
Allen is one of the more underrated and versatile defensive linemen in this year's class. He offers potential at defensive end in either a three or four-man line as well as tackle in a conventional setup. His ability to make plays and force the action doesn't always show up on the stat sheet, but his combination of football smarts, intensity and technique will lead Allen to a long and productive career at the next level.
