Bio:
Four-year starter at left guard who earned Second Team All-America honors in 2016 and 2017. Named Honorable Mention All-Conference USA as a sophomore. Started all 13 games as a redshirt freshman.
Pos:
Large, bruising offensive lineman best in a small area. Explosive at the point, fires off the snap and plays with a nasty attitude. Keeps his head on a swivel, displays outstanding blocking vision and always looks for someone to hit. Sinks his butt at the line of scrimmage, blocks with proper pad level and stays square. Strong and controls defenders at the point of attack. Seals opponents from the play or drives them off the line altogether. Properly places his hands into opponents and works them throughout the action. Stays with the play and hits multiple defenders on a single snap. Very chippy and has an intimidating style.
Neg:
Shows stiffness in his game, which hurts his ability to finish blocks. Lacks top footwork in space. Heavy-footed and ineffective blocking in motion. Arm length of 32-3/8 inches will be a problem for some teams.
Analysis:
Hernandez is a terrific guard who took his game to another level during Senior Bowl practices. He’s a tough, powerful blocker who will have a long starting career in the NFL if placed in the proper system.
