Bio:
Three-year starter who sat out the 2013 season after transferring from Oklahoma State, where he started the 2012 season opener as a true freshman. Finished his 28-game Illinois career with 36 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, ranking in top eight in school history in passing yards, completions and touchdown passes. Senior captain who earned three Academic All-Big Ten honors.
Pos:
Nice-sized quarterback with a big arm and the ability to make all the throws. Patient, buys time and displays a terrific sense of knowing where receivers are on the field. Effectively controls the offense, naturally looks off safeties and mostly makes proper decisions. Stays with the action, always working to make positive plays and scanning the field to find the open wideout. Takes the safe underneath outlet if nothing else is available, effectively sets up screen passes and does not force the ball to covered targets. Possesses a next-level arm and shows the ability to drive deep passes and put speed on the outs.
Neg:
Can be all over the place with throws, making receivers work hard to catch the ball or missing open targets with wild passes. Limited mobility, cannot elude the rush and is average throwing on the move.
Analysis:
Lunt has next-level size as well as the arm to play on Sundays and comes with a decent upside. He needs time to improve his overall game but is worth placing on the practice squad for future development.
