Bio:
Three-year starter who completed 47.2 percent of his passes for 1,324 yards, nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions and rushed 174 times for 930 yards and seven TDs as a senior. Named Big South Offensive Player of the Year and led the conference with 2,622 yards of total offense and 965 rushing yards while completing 55.7 percent of his passes for 1,657 yards and combining for 17 touchdowns (eight rushing) in 2016. Posted a 45.7 percent completion rate and threw for 997 yards, seven TDs and nine picks while rushing for 794 yards and four TDs on 189 carries as a sophomore.
Pos:
Athletic quarterback with a next-level arm and the ability to pick up yardage with his legs. Patient in the pocket, buys time for receivers and effectively commands the offense. Sells ball fakes, goes through progressions and throws with an over-the-top delivery. Effectively sets up screen throws, does not force the ball to covered targets and easily gets outside the pocket to make throws on the move. Quick-footed ball carrier who shows a burst through running lanes and eludes defenders to pick up positive yardage.
Neg:
Does not sense the backside rush. Often brought down easily in the pocket. Accuracy gets away from him on occasion.
Analysis:
Maxwell is a nifty quarterback who needs to fine-tune his mechanics but should be given practice-squad consideration this summer.
