Bio:
Two-year starter who made 62 tackles (12 for loss) with 4.5 sacks and five pass breakups as a senior. Missed the entire 2016 season after dislocating his hip in the 2016 Music City Bowl. Made eight starts as a junior and posted 32 tackles (10 for loss), 8.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. Tallied seven tackles and one sack in 2014 in his first season with Louisville after transferring from Florida.
Pos:
Explosive pass-rusher with an injury history. Breaks down well, plays with terrific leverage and easily moves to every direction of the field. Immediately alters his angle of attack, makes a lot of athletic plays and moves well laterally in pursuit of the action. Effective with his hands, relentless and keeps his feet moving. Shows a great first step off the snap and speed off the edge.
Neg:
Struggles getting off blocks. Easily controlled at the point of attack. Rarely asked to make plays moving in reverse. Past injury history must be checked out.
Analysis:
Young was a highly regarded pass rusher off his 2015 film before being sidelined with injury the following year. He’s an explosive defender with decent size and upside potential and could help a team if he passes physicals and remains healthy.
