Bio:
Three-year starter who earned Second Team All-AAC as a junior after finishing tied for second in the conference with 13 touchdown receptions and third with 1,171 receiving yards. Caught 57 passes for 853 yards and five touchdowns in 2016. Set UCF freshman records with 52 receptions and 724 receiving yards and earned AAC Rookie of the Year honors.
Pos:
Big-play receiver with a developing game. Plays with balance, body control and a sense of timing. Comes back to the ball out of breaks and moves across the field to make himself an available target, uses his frame to shield away defenders and extends his hands to snatch passes from the air. Quickly releases off the line and immediately gets to top speed. Solid vertical receiver who makes over-the-shoulder receptions, adjusts to deep passes and catches the ball in stride. Effectively tracks the pass in the air, makes tough catches in a crowd and takes a pounding but holds onto the throw. Gives effort blocking downfield.
Neg:
Bobbles and double-catches throws. Does not consistently catch the ball cleanly. Tends to secure passes against his frame.
Analysis:
Smith showed improvement over the past three seasons and has displayed himself as a big-play receiver. He needs to polish his game but is a solid last-day pick who should be able to line up as a fourth receiver on Sundays.
