Started his final two seasons at Baylor and was named Honorable Mention All-Big 12 in each of those campaigns. Recorded 73 tackles (nine for loss), 1.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and five PBUs as a junior. Tied for the team lead with four forced fumbles and posted 84 tackles (7.5 for loss), two sacks, two interceptions and six pass breakups in 2015. Made 31 tackles with one interception as a redshirt freshman.
Pos:
Relatively athletic run-defending safety whose career has been in a tailspin the past 12 months. Aggressive, keeps the action in front of him and defeats blocks on his way up the field to make plays against run plays and screen passes. Displays good range, shows good recognition in coverage and quickly gets out to the sidelines to in coverage.
Neg:
Struggles to make plays with his back to the ball and possesses average ball skills. Not a strong open-field tackler.
Analysis:
Scouts graded Blanchard as a potential third-round choice after his junior season at Baylor, but his July 2017 arrest set his career back. He’s an athletic prospect with the ability to be used as a traditional free safety or in zone coverage, but teams must be comfortable with his character and Blanchard must get his game back on track.
