Bio:
Three-year starter who earned First Team All-Big 12 honors in 2016 and 2017 and led TCU in tackles in each of his final three seasons. Made 108 tackles (seven for loss) with one sack, one interception and seven pass breakups as a senior. Posted 130 tackles (three for loss), 1.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and two PBUs in 2016. Recorded 105 tackles (eight for loss), one sack, one interception, a team-high three forced fumbles and two pass breakups as a sophomore.
Pos:
Undersized linebacker who stands out in coverage and in pursuit. Breaks down well, gets depth on pass drops and covers a lot of area on the field. Scrapes well laterally, displays speed in a straight line and out to the flanks and works hard to make plays. Takes proper angles, shows burst to the action and possesses solid ball skills.
Neg:
Small, easily knocked off balance by the initial hit and gets caught up in the trash.
Analysis:
Howard is an underrated linebacker with safety size and speed. He’s a run-and-chase or one-gap defender with potential as a nickel linebacker and special teamer.
