Pos:
Three-year starter who sat on the sidelines in 2016 with a knee injury. Totals last season included 34 tackles and 11 tackles for loss. Explosive one-gap defensive tackle who plays with athleticism. Intense, feisty and gives great effort. Explosive, plays with proper pad level and gets leverage on opponents. Moves well about the field, easily slides down the line of scrimmage and gets outside the box in pursuit of the action. Shows a terrific closing burst, attacks opponents and fights with his hands to protect himself.
Neg:
Lacks bulk and gets controlled at the point by a single blocker. Will be overwhelmed and even engulfed by larger offensive linemen.
Analysis:
Beckner is an athletic, explosive one-gap or three-technique prospect with a good upside. He needs to improve his playing strength, but if he’s focused on football, Beckner could have a long career at the next level.
