Bio:
Three-year starter who earned Third Team All-ACC honors and made 59 tackles with two interceptions and four pass breakups as a junior. Named Honorable Mention All-ACC and led the Hokies with four interceptions in 2016, adding 89 tackles and three PBUs. Started eight games as a redshirt freshman and posted 34 tackles and seven pass breakups.
Pos:
Nice-sized safety best playing between the numbers and downhill. Effectively uses his hands to protect himself, breaks down well and wraps up tackling. Displays a good head for the ball, effectively diagnoses the action and moves well laterally. Recognizes coverage assignments, works well with cornerbacks and brackets receivers over the middle of the field. Fires up the field to defend screen passes and running plays. Plays big football.
Neg:
Plays with average long speed and shows a marginal closing burst. Possesses poor hands for the interception. Too quick up the field, bites on ball fakes and gets caught out of position. Limited ball skills and cannot make plays with his back to the quarterback. Coming off shoulder injury.
Analysis:
Edmunds possesses the size, tenacity and skill to line up as a strong safety if he’s healthy.
