Bio:
Four-year starter who led Baylor with 60 tackles (eight for loss) and added three sacks in 2017. Recorded 93 tackles (nine for loss) and 4.5 sacks as a junior. Named Honorable Mention All-Big 12 and posted 80 tackles (13.5 for loss) and four sacks in 2015. Started eight games as a true freshman and made 80 tackles (eight for loss) with four sacks, two forced fumbles and one interception.
Pos:
Undersized run-and-chase linebacker best in pursuit. Quick, intense and sells out to make plays. Aggressive in all aspects, fires up the field to fill gaps in run defense and gives great effort on the blitz. Stacks well against the run despite his size. Quickly locates the action, displays tremendous quickness and uses his hands to protect himself. Shows a burst of speed in pursuit of the play. Recognizes and picks up coverage assignments. Makes the defensive calls for the team.
Neg:
Easily knocked from his angle of attack by the initial block. Gets caught up in the wash. Lack of height results in mismatches in coverage situations.
Analysis:
Young lacks the desired height for the NFL, but his speed, quickness and intensity would be an asset on the inside of a 3-4 alignment and on coverage units.
