Three-year starter who earned MAC Defensive Player of the Year after posting 49 tackles (15 for loss) and 10.5 sacks in 2016. Received Freshman All-American recognition after bursting onto the scene with 31 tackles (8.5 for loss) and 7.5 sacks in his first season with the Bobcats.
Athletic college defensive end whose draft stock is rising. Quick off the snap, plays with excellent leverage and keeps his feet and hands active throughout the play. Resilient, rarely off his feet and slides off blocks to get to the action. Displays outstanding movement skills, easily collapses down the line of scrimmage pursuing the action and is fast moving to every area of the field. Smooth changing direction, fluid dropping off the line of scrimmage and agile. Plays with balance, body control and a nasty attitude. Terrific pass rusher out of a three-point stance as well as standing up over tackle.
Lacks bulk and struggles disengaging from larger linemen. Used in coverage during the Senior Bowl but struggled making plays with his back to the ball.
Basham is a nice-sized defender with growth potential and a tremendous amount of upside. He’s a terrific pass rusher with the ability to grow into a three-down defender as he physically matures over time. A situational player early in his NFL career, he possesses the tools to develop into a starter.
