Bio:
Two-year starter who earned Second Team All-Mountain West honors in 2016 after leading the conference with 1,326 receiving yards, tying for the lead with 14 receiving touchdowns and ranking fourth with 72 receptions. Was leading the Mountain West in receiving yards through seven games as a junior before a shoulder injury sidelined him for the rest of the season. Made three starts in 2014, catching 32 passes for 435 yards and two TDs. Recorded 39 catches for 376 yards as a true freshman.
Pos:
Reliable and ultra-productive receiver who plays smart, tough football. Sells routes, finds way to separate from defenders and extends his hands to offer the quarterback a target. Displays outstanding focus and concentration and makes the difficult catch in a crowd. Uses the sidelines well, plays with both balance and body control and consistently makes the reception away from his frame. Makes the difficult catch in a crowd, keeps the play in bounds running after the reception and always works to make positive plays. Displays a sense of timing and anticipation. Gives effort blocking downfield.
Neg:
Possesses minimal quickness and speed. Cannot beat defenders in a foot race or get downfield separation. May struggle separating at the next level and will have to come away with a lot of contested passes.
Analysis:
Gentry was a productive wideout who showed continued progress in his game and a player who did the little things well. He’s a slot receiver whose downfield blocking could help him capture a roster spot.
