Bio:
First-year starter named Third Team All-American in 2016 after making 62 tackles (15 for loss) with eight sacks and seven quarterback hurries. Earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 honors as a redshirt freshman in 2015, tallying 39 tackles (10.5 for loss) and 3.5 sacks.
Pos:
Incredibly athletic lineman who plays with a nasty disposition. Explosive, fluid moving in every direction and consistently making plays on the ball. Fires off the snap with an explosive first step, uses his hands to protect himself and is constantly the focus of opponents. Relentless, keeps his feet and hands active and plays with outstanding pad level. Fast up the field, quickly locates the ball and gets after it defending the run. Quick if asked to twist or stunt, immediately alters his angle of attack and displays speed moving in any direction. Slides down the line to make plays, displays himself as a dominant pass rusher and constantly disrupts the action behind the line of scrimmage. Plays while injured and does not give up.
Neg:
Lacks great bulk, size and strength at the point of attack. Out-positioned from the play by larger tackles. May not have the ability to add much more weight to his frame.
Analysis:
Thomas comes off a sensational season and justifiably moves towards the draft as one of the highest-rated defensive lineman. He offers immediate starting potential at defensive end in a four-man line and will only improve in time as he learns NFL techniques.
