Bio:
Four-year starter who earned Third Team FCS All-America honors and an invitation to the Senior Bowl in 2017. Started four games at right tackle but missed the majority of the 2016 season after suffering a season-ending injury. Started nine games as a junior, including five at right guard, three at left tackle and one at right tackle. Made 10 starts at right guard in 2014. Started 12 games as a true freshman, five of which came at left guard and seven of which were at right tackle.
Pos:
Large, powerful blocker best in a very small area. Blocks with good lean, keeps his knees bent and can be an overwhelming force at the point. Gets his hands into opponents, drives defenders off the line and engulfs them from the action. Quick with his hands, properly places them into defenders and keeps his feet moving. Easily anchors at the point and controls defenders once engaged.
Neg:
Occasionally overextends into blocks and misses opponents altogether. Lacks footwork in space. Not nimble or agile and lacks lateral range. Has a history of concussions.
Analysis:
Phillips was a dominant small-school blocker and is a size prospect best in a conventional running game if his medicals and character check out.
