Bio:
Two-year starter who earned First Team All-OVC honors in each of those seasons. Led Jacksonville State with 11 pass breakups and added 39 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble in 2017 to earn an invitation to the Senior Bowl. Made 80 tackles (11.5 for loss) with four PBUs as a junior. Recorded 40 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble in 2015. Made 32 tackles as a redshirt freshman.
Pos:
Explosive safety with solid ball skills. Aggressive, instinctive and quickly locates the ball. Breaks down well, flows smoothly to the action and shows great quickness. Keeps the action in front of him, quickly picks up coverage assignments and works well with cornerbacks. Shows a burst to the action, drives his shoulders through ball carriers and hits hard. Wraps up tackling and brings ball carriers down at the point of attack. Occasionally lines up over the slot receiver and does a solid job.
Neg:
Does not properly time pass defenses. Not smooth out of his transition. Lacks top-end speed.
Analysis:
Neal was a steady defender for Jacksonville State who was effective against the run and the pass. He possesses the physical skill and football ability to line up as a strong safety or in a zone system where he faces the action.
