Bio:
Two-year starter who earned First Team All-Big Ten honors and led Indiana with 72 receptions for 841 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior. Suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the 2016 season opener. Led the team with 60 receptions and 1,035 receiving yards and scored four touchdowns in 2015. Started two games as a true freshman and caught seven passes for 114 yards.
Pos:
Large, game-controlling receiver with an inconsistent game. Comes back to the ball out of breaks, offers the quarterback a large target and nicely adjusts to errant throws. Climbs over defenders to come down with contested passes, displays a sense of timing on receptions and shows terrific power after the catch. Extends his hands to make receptions away from his frame and comes away with a lot of acrobatic receptions. Physically beats down defenders to get separation and flashes ability as a blocker.
Neg:
Lacks a quick release off the line of scrimmage and takes a while to get going. Long strider with built-up speed. Inconsistent with his overall intensity and effort. Drops a lot of catchable throws and doesn’t possess soft hands. Not always on the same page as his quarterback, doesn’t play with great awareness and seems to lose sense of where he is on the field.
Analysis:
Cobbs is a dominant, game-controlling receiver at the top of his game but displays a lot of inconsistencies in all areas of the receiver position. He possesses the underlying ability to line up as a No. 2 on the depth chart but must polish his game and come to play on every snap.
