Bio:
Two-year starter who was a unanimous First Team All-AAC selection in 2017, becoming the seventh player in league history to earn such honors, after making 74 tackles (13.5 for loss) with seven sacks. Named AAC Defensive Player of the Year as a junior after leading the conference with 11.5 sacks and finishing third with 20 tackles for loss. Saw limited action on special teams and as a safety in 2015.
Pos:
Inspirational linebacker whose impact reaches far beyond the playing field. Athletic, explosive and fast moving in every direction of the field. Forceful off the edge as a blitzer, tremendous in pursuit and shows excellent range. Breaks down well and fights through blocks. Disruptive force who effectively reads and diagnoses the action, remains disciplined with coverage assignments and shows a great head for the ball. Sells out to make plays.
Neg:
Lacks size and struggles getting off blocks once engaged at the point of attack. More of a scheme-specific player. Disability will hinder his ability to finish tackles and make plays in coverage.
Analysis:
Griffin was a tremendous player who was a joy to watch on the field while being an inspiration off it. His love for the game is infectious on film, and his ability to connect with people is equally apparent. He’s a nickel linebacker at the next level who possesses the speed, tenacity and skill to play on special teams.
