A gruesome ankle injury ended the senior season of Baylor quarterback Seth Russell nine games into the 2016 campaign. Just days after the injury Russell was on the operating table undergoing surgery to repair the fractured joint. But in this exclusive report we’ve learned Russell's rehabilitation is ahead of schedule.
The injury occurred during the November 12th contest against Oklahoma which Baylor ultimately lost by a count of 45-24. To that point in the season Russell had thrown for 2126-yards with 20 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. By comparison his 2015 numbers included 2104 passing yards with 29 passing scores and just 6 interceptions.
Prior to the season scouts stamped Russell as a potential third round choice. The quarterback was on the Senior Bowl watch list and scouts hoped to see him participate in Mobile but the timing of the injury made that impossible.
I’ve learned Russell will attend the Senior Bowl, take part in the weigh-ins then make himself available for team interviews throughout the week.
Russell’s rehabilitation is ahead of schedule and the game plan is to have him throw during the NFL combine in Indianapolis which starts a little later than usual. On the field workouts for the quarterbacks take place Saturday, March 4th this year, one week later than they have in the past.
