Scouting the SEC - Florida

The situation got ugly at Florida last season, and while they placed a player in the first round of April’s draft, it will get worse before it gets better from an NFL point of view.

Two Gators players on offense could impact Day 2 of the draft.

Safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson is a quick, explosive defender who offers large upside. He’s not a big-bodied defensive back but shows enough speed and range to play center field, and he's a tough run defender.

Martez Ivey is a large, powerful college tackle with terrific explosion at the point, but he's a fundamentally poor blocker. For starters, he does not bend his knees and shows a lot of stiffness. Ivey has limitations and may be relegated to guard on Sundays.

Keep an eye on receiver and return specialist Van Jefferson, who just transferred to UF from Ole Miss.

Jefferson is a smallish but explosive skill player with big-play potential. I graded him as a potential fifth-round prospect off the 2016 film, but his playing time and productivity slid a bit last season.
