Scouting the SEC - Arkansas

Despite a disappointing won-loss record and the firing of their head coach, the Razorbacks put a player in the first round of last April’s draft. After watching the film, I don’t think either trend continues.

Several scouts grade Santos Ramirez as a late-round pick, but I disagree.

Ramirez has been a productive defender the past two seasons, showing a physical nature against the run while also possessing solid ball skills in coverage. He rarely puts a foot wrong on the field and plays tough, instinctive football. Ramirez lacks great speed, which could hurt his draft stock, and he may be limited in the types of schemes where he can line up. If used properly, I have no doubt he’ll produce at the next level.

Hjalte Froholdt is a nasty small-area blocker who annihilates opponents at the point of attack. He blocks with terrific fundamentals and does a good job working with linemates. Froholdt is limited in his ability to block in motion but would be terrific in a system that does not ask him to cover a lot of area.

Dre Greenlaw is highly regarded in the scouting community as a quick, speedy linebacker who chews up a lot of ground in a short amount of time. He’s undersized but nicely projects as the run-and-chase linebacker so many teams want these days.

Keep an eye on Ryan Pulley. I gave the corner a fourth-round grade off the 2016 film before his junior campaign was cut short with injury. Pulley has decent size and next-level ball skills, which could help him quickly ascend up draft boards if he’s gets back to playing form.
