Scouting the MAC - Western Michigan

Western Michigan has had a good run during the top three rounds of the draft over the past two years. That will continue in July but is unlikely to occur in April 2019.

Obviously the big news pertaining to WMU's next-level prospects is the announcement that corner Sam Beal intends to make himself eligible for July’s supplemental draft.

I’m told scouts graded Beal as a potential first-round pick during recent meetings, and those grades were reflective on what they thought possible in April 2019 rather than this coming July.

Beal is a nice-sized corner with solid ball skills and seemingly solid play speed. He struggles in zone and does not display great recognition, which will raise red flags.

We intend to have a full report on Beal and the other supplemental draft prospects next month.
