In what could be a fun game, Memphis plays in front of a home crowd at the Liberty Bowl, taking on the upstart Iowa State Cyclones. It will be an offensive show highlighted by a pair of potential second-day receiver prospects.

Despite incredible production as a junior, Memphis wideout Anthony Miller entered the season with third-day grades from scouts. Miller‘s numbers were terrific last season as he caught 92 passes for 1407 yards with 17 TDs. He’s the go-to-guy who opponents have trouble stopping, and Miller makes the extraordinary catch as easily as he hauls in the simple reception.

Size and speed numbers as well as medicals during the predraft process will weigh heavily in determining Miller’s final draft grade There’s a belief he won’t run under 4.5s in the 40, and sources tell me there’s a shoulder issue combine doctors must check out. If all works out well, Miller nicely projects as a No. 3 receiver out of the slot and return specialist on Sundays.

NFL scouts stamped Allen Lazard as one of the highest-graded senior receivers in the nation. He’s a big-bodied receiver with sure hands and a pass catcher who consistently makes the important catch during the critical moments of a game.

Lazard’s 40 times during predraft workouts are also important, though not as critical as Miller’s since most teams already project the senior as a possession wideout for the next level less reliant on speed and separation skills.

Quarterback Riley Ferguson entered the season stamped as a street free agent by scouts but has worked his way into the late rounds. Ferguson lacks great physical skills but takes what the defense gives him, which is enough to give him a chance in camp next summer.
