In its third season under head coach Mike Bobo, Colorado State finished the regular season 7-5 with a 5-3 conference record -- the same exact record the Rams had in each of Bobo’s first two campaigns -- despite a 6-2 start. Marshall (7-5, 4-4) bounced back from a 3-9 season in 2016 to reach its fourth bowl game in the last five seasons under Doc Holliday, although the Thundering Herd hasn’t quite gotten back to the level that saw it run off three straight 10-win seasons from 2013-15.

There isn’t much draftable talent on display in this year’s GILDAN New Mexico Bowl, but each team features one player who should come off the board sometime on the draft’s third day, one of whom has a good chance to improve his stock during the predraft process.

Michael Gallup turned in his second straight impressive season since transferring to Colorado State from the community college ranks, leading the Mountain West with 94 receptions and 1,345 yards and ranking third and fourth, respectively, among FBS players. A Biletnikoff Award finalist who will participate in Senior Bowl week, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound wideout plays physical football and knows how to use his size and strength to his advantage both as a receiver and running after the catch while consistently displaying big-play ability throughout his career.

A starter since his redshirt freshman season, Ryan Bee has increased his sack totals in each of his three years at Marshall, culminating in a 5.5-sack season in 2017 to go along with 49 tackles (6.5 for loss) despite kicking inside to nose tackle. His 6-foot-7 stature stands out on the field, and he uses that length effectively to keep blockers off his body and displays the athleticism to be effective both in pursuit against the run and as a pass rusher around the edge. He has the growth potential to add weight to his 280-pound frame and develop into a solid asset in a 4-3 defense.
