Bio:
Two-year starter who made 35 receptions for 579 yards and five touchdowns in 2016 as Pitt’s second-most productive weapon in the passing game. Caught 13 passes for 244 yards and five scores as a junior in 2015. Started five games as a freshman before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
Pos:
Solid pass-catching tight end coming off a career campaign. Runs good routes, separates from defenders and extends his hands to offer the quarterback a target. Makes the reception away from his frame and takes the big hit but holds onto the throw. Bends his knees, blocks with leverage and plays through the whistle.
Neg:
Average long speed and will not consistently run the seam. Average strength at the point of attack and struggles holding his ground.
Analysis:
Orndoff was not on the scouting radar entering the season but showed himself to be a reliable pass-catching threat in 2016. He has athletic limitations but could make it as the third man on the depth chart if he improves his blocking strength.
