Bio:
Two-year starter who was named First Team All-SEC and led the conference with 137 tackles while leading Georgia with 14 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks and forcing one fumble in 2017. Led the team with 95 tackles (five for loss) and forced two fumbles as a sophomore.
Pos:
Small but explosive run-and-chase linebacker best in pursuit. Fierce, aggressive and a violent hitter. Explosive moving in every direction, covers a lot of area on the field and has a closing burst to the play. Fast, fires up the field in run defense and shoots the gaps to make plays behind the line of scrimmage. Easily changes direction and loses no momentum when he alters his angle of attack. Agile, breaks down well and effectively uses his hands. Effective facing the action and gets depth on pass drops. Sells out on the blitz and causes fumbles with explosive hits.
Neg:
Does not take the best angles in coverage. Struggles to make plays with his back to the ball. Small and will need a free shot at the ball carrier at the next level.
Analysis:
Smith is a tremendous pursuit linebacker who plays with a violent style. He has size limitations and will struggle to cover tight ends but will be a very productive linebacker in the proper NFL system.
