Bio:
Three-year starter who was named Third Team All-Big Ten and made 24 tackles with one interception and nine pass breakups as a senior. Earned Third Team All-Big Ten honors and led the conference with 17 pass breakups in 2016, posting 33 tackles and tying for the team lead with three interceptions. Finished second in the nation with 22 PBUs as a sophomore and made 52 tackles with one interception.
Pos:
Tough, competitive cornerback with terrific ball skills and poor-next level size. Mixes it up with receivers from the snap of the ball, displays excellent timing and anticipation and gets his head back around to locate passes in the air. Works well with safeties to bracket receivers over the middle of the field. Plays with great intensity, dives around the action and sacrifices his body to defend the throw. Quick transitioning with opponents off the line, keeps the action in front of him and displays a burst to the ball out of his plant. Gives effort against the run and wraps up tackling.
Neg:
Short and loses out to larger receivers. Deep speed is a concern. Comes off a somewhat disappointing senior campaign.
Analysis:
Despite poor measurables for the next level, Fant displays top ball skills and a competitive spirit. He can line up in nickel or dime packages and would be best in a zone system or a scheme where he is used backed off the line of scrimmage.
