Bio:
First-year starter who led Alabama with 13 tackles for loss and matched the team lead with 74 tackles while posting six sacks, one forced fumble and three pass breakups as a senior. Made 53 tackles (4.5 for loss) with four sacks, one forced fumble and two PBUs in 2016. Combined to record 24 tackles (six for loss) and five sacks in his first two seasons with the Crimson Tide.
Pos:
Athletic three-down linebacker who does an outstanding job making plays in space. Breaks down well and possesses a closing burst. Remains disciplined with assignments, does not bite on play-action passes and shows ability in coverage. Gets depth on drops, plays smart football and shows speed both in a straight line and laterally. Stays with the action, flows well to the play and uses his hands to protect himself. Forceful up the field and sells out on the blitz.
Neg:
Inefficient and does not always take proper angles to the action. Lacks bulk. Easily blocked from the action.
Analysis:
Evans is a well-rounded linebacker most effective in space. He’s a three-down player with the athleticism and movement skills to start as a rookie in the NFL.
