Bio:
Four-year starter who was named First Team All-ACC in his final two seasons with the Cavaliers and Second Team All-ACC in his first two seasons while earning an invitation to the Senior Bowl in 2017. Finished second on the team in tackles in each of his final three seasons. Made 137 tackles (3.5 for loss) and tied for the team lead with four interceptions in 2017. Tallied 120 tackles with two INTs and six pass breakups as a junior. Posted 115 tackles with one interception and three PBUs in 2015. Led the team with 123 tackles as a true freshman, intercepted three passes and broke up six.
Pos:
Tough, run-defending safety who plays heads-up football. Keeps the action in front of him, plays instinctive football and rarely has breakdowns in coverage. Picks up his assignments in the middle of the field, flows well to the action and works well with cornerbacks to bracket receivers. Fires up the field to defend the run, wraps up tackling and forces the action.
Neg:
Inefficient and takes extra steps to the action. Possesses average quickness. Mistimes his pass defenses and shows average skill in deep center field.
Analysis:
Blanding was a solid college defensive back who projects to strong safety at the next level. His size, run-stopping ability and willingness to play assignment football could help him develop into a starter.
