Bio:
Four-year starter who earned First Team All-MAC honors in each of his final two seasons at Ohio. Led the team with 107 tackles, 12.5 tackles, 5.5 sacks and three forced fumbles while adding four pass breakups in 2017. Made 109 tackles (13.5 for loss) with four sacks, two forced fumble and five PBUs as a junior. Led the team with 69 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and four interceptions while adding four sacks and two forced fumbles in 2015. Posted a team-high 89 tackles (7.5 for loss), five sacks and three INTs as a redshirt freshman.
Pos:
Productive run-defending linebacker who makes a lot of plays behind the line of scrimmage. Instinctive, quickly reads and diagnoses the action and moves well to every area of the field. Effective in pursuit, fluid moving in reverse and gets depth on pass drops. Shows ability in zone coverage. Sells out on the blitz, flies around the field and works to make positive plays. Displays solid range. Effectively quarterbacks the defense.
Neg:
Not a stout linebacker, struggles to stack against the run and easily gets taken from the action by blocks. Size is a limiting factor.
Analysis:
Poling plays tough, instinctive football and could back up at inside linebacker in a 3-4 alignment if he does well on coverage units this summer.
