Prospect matchups in the SEC Title Game

Georgia vs. Auburn

The SEC title game is a titanic battle which will have a major impact on the national rankings. By my count there are at least 22 draftable prospects in this game, 11 which grade as potential first- or second-day selections. The top two prospects are both running backs, and the questionable health of Auburn’s back could swing the game.

There are a variety of matchups in this game but, far and away, the ability of Georgia’s talented linebackers to stop a banged-up Kerryon Johnson tops the list.

Johnson has been dominant for the Tigers this season, elevating his game as well as his draft grade. He’s presently ranked as the third-rated prospect on our running back board and if all goes well in the lead up to the draft, Johnson could sneak into the first round. The big ball carrier suffered a shoulder injury during last week’s victory over Alabama which will limit him today -- and that’s a shame.

Georgia has two linebackers, Lorenzo Carter and Roquan Smith, who grade as top-45 picks.

I’m a big fan of Carter and feel he has a little Leonard Floyd in his game. Carter comes with outstanding size and speed numbers, forces the action up the field and is equally adept making plays in space or covering the tight end. He has a tremendous amount of upside potential and will be a terrific player on Sundays.

Roquan Smith lacks the size of Carter but is faster, much better sideline to sideline and plays with a nastier attitude. Smith is terrific in pursuit and has a large degree of scheme versatility in his game.

Word is that both Johnson and Smith will enter the draft.
