There was a decent crowd at the UCF pro day, and the top names impressed.

Cornerback Mike Hughes stood on his combine numbers but did ball drills and fielded punts. The feedback was that he looked better today than he did at the combine.

The junior, who is expected to be a top-45 pick later this month, met with the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers yesterday. The Panthers are bringing in Hughes for a predraft visit, as are the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Bucs and Kansas City Chiefs

Receiver Tre'Quan Smith also stood on his combine 40 but did position drills. Surprisingly he was not asked to field any kicks during today’s workout. Smith has already completed private workouts for the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Bucs. He has another workout set with the Dallas Cowboys and is making a trip to see the New York Giants on an official visit.

Defensive lineman Antonio Guerad, a participant in the NFLPA game, measured 6030 and 298 pounds and touched 27 inches in the vertical jump. His 40 times were in the 5.3s, while he clocked 4.76 in the short shuttle and 7.7 in the three-cone. Guerad, who looked fluid in drills, spent time with both the Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts today.

Offensive lineman Aaron Evans measured 6047 and 309 pounds, completed 27 reps on the bench and hit 25 inches on the vertical jump. He timed 5.35 in the 40, 7.79 in the three-cone and 4.76 in the short shuttle. He spent significant time with the Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts. Evans is making an official-30 visit to see the Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs next month.

Tight end Jordan Akins stood on his 40 time from the combine but completed 29 reps on the bench press. He looked really good catching the ball.

Earlier this week, Akins was worked out by the two main decision makers of the Detroit Lions, and workouts are scheduled with the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers. After today’s pro day, Akins hopped a plane to the midwest, as the Kansas City Chiefs are bringing him in for an official-30 visit. The New York Jets are also showing a lot of interest in Akins.
