Bio:
Two-year starter who was named Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year and made 34 tackles (eight for loss) with one sack and one forced fumble in 2017 to earn an invitation to the Senior Bowl. Named Honorable Mention All-Big 12 and posted 54 tackles (5.5 for loss) and one forced fumble as a junior. Made five starts and recorded 39 tackles (six for loss), 2.5 sacks and one forced fumble in 2015.
Pos:
Short, explosive and hard-working defensive lineman with possibilities at the three-technique spot. Explodes off the snap with a terrific first step, plays with great leverage and keeps his pads low to the ground. Resilient, works his hands and keeps his feet moving throughout the action. Plays hard, covers a good amount of area on the field and possesses a closing burst. Displays a variety of moves to protect himself and get off blocks.
Neg:
Lack of height is an issue, as he’s easily engulfed at the point of attack. Not much of a pass rusher.
Analysis:
Ford was ignored by NFL scouts entering the season despite three years of solid game film. He played well during practices for the Shrine Game and had his moments the following week at the Senior Bowl. He’s a late-round prospect with possibilities on a team that keeps eight defensive linemen.
