Bio:
Two-year starter who made 61 tackles (seven for loss) with four sacks in 2017. Recorded 45 tackles (six for loss) and 3.5 sacks as a junior. Posted 52 tackles (5.5 for loss), 4.5 sacks and one forced fumble in 2015. Made 32 tackles (9.5 for loss) with 6.5 sacks and one forced fumble as a redshirt freshman.
Pos:
Athletic defender whose game never progressed. Breaks down well and plays with leverage and instincts. Fluid if asked to twist or stunt, shows good awareness and gets after assignments. Rarely off his feet, holds his ground against blocks and sets the edge. Effective backed off the line of scrimmage and in space. Hard hitter who goes after opponents.
Neg:
Engulfed by opponents or out-positioned from the play by a single blocker. Doesn’t play to his 40 time. Poor pass-rushing production.
Analysis:
Kalambayi was considered a top prospect after his sophomore season but watched his game and production level off. He has the physical skills to be used at linebacker in a variety of defensive schemes but must quickly pick up his production. Kalambayi could ultimately be one of the steals in this year’s draft if he starts to play to his potential.
