Pos:
Athletically gifted quarterback with an erratic game. Shows a nice feel for what’s happening on the field as well as solid pocket awareness. Remains poised under the rush, keeps his eyes downfield and always looks to make positive plays. Patient, sits in the pocket and consistently finds the open wideout. Displays a sense of timing on throws. Easily gets outside the pocket, loses nothing throwing on the move and shows the ability to precisely place throws. Possesses a strong arm, makes the difficult cross-field pass and drives deep throws. Does not make a lot of errant passes or force the ball into covered targets. Throws the ball away or takes the sack rather than forcing passes.defensive lineman who takes over games. Powerful, at times impossible to handle and gets tremendous push up the field. Overruns blocks, consistently penetrates the line of scrimmage and disrupts the action. Destroys one-on-one blocking, easily discards opponents and quickly gets to the ball handler to make the tackle. Displays good change of direction, moves well laterally and easily redirects to the ball carrier. Stays with the action, keeps his feet moving and is a secure open-field tackler.
Neg:
Passing fundamentals are bit erratic. Seems to over-stride on throws, which leads to misplaced passes. Really not an elusive signal caller who will pick up yardage with his feet. his overall playing balance. Lacks an explosive first step off the snap and has minimal closing burst.
Analysis:
Over the past two years at Kentucky as well as Boston College, Towles displayed flashes of brilliance and next-level ability. He’s a strong-armed pocket passer but lacks consistency, which is a major red flag. He has enough skill to be given consideration for a practice squad.
