Bio:
Three-year starter who earned Second Team All-ACC honors and led the team with 115 tackles and 11 tackles for loss while adding two sacks as a senior and earning an invitation to the East-West Shrine Game. Posted a team-high 110 tackles (6.5 for loss), one interception and three forced fumbles in 2016. Made 44 tackles (3.5 for loss) and intercepted one pass in eight starts as a sophomore before missing the final four games due to injury.
Pos:
Productive run-and-chase linebacker with size limitations. Shows great quickness, flies around the action and sells out to make plays. Instinctive, displays tremendous range and covers a lot of area on the field. Fast in pursuit, scrapes well laterally and explodes to the action. Picks up coverage assignments, keeps the action in front of him and takes proper angles to the play.
Neg:
Small and must run around blocks rather than taking them head-on. Gets caught up in the trash. Lack of height will result in coverage mismatches against tight ends.
Analysis:
Bennett was not on the scouting radar in the lead-up to 2017 despite playing productive football the past two seasons. He now heads towards the draft as a potential late-round pick. Bennett is a run-and-chase linebacker who could back up on the inside of a 3-4 defense while also playing special teams.
