Two-year starter who earned Third Team All-American honors in 2016 after making 45 receptions for 595 yards and three touchdowns. Caught 38 passes for 602 yards and two touchdowns, leading Alabama with 15.8 yards per reception. Started eight games combined in his first two seasons with the Crimson Tide, posting 31 receptions for 529 yards and two scores.
Big, athletic tight end with a large upside. Fundamentally sound, bends his knees and blocks with excellent pad level. Quickly gets into blocks, stays square and flashes dominance as a blocker. Fluid moving about the field, plays faster than his 40 time and easily makes the reception in stride downfield. Displays natural pass-catching skills and plays the tight end position like a receiver, extending his hands and snatching the ball from the air. Quick up the field running after the catch and shows the ability to pick up positive yardage. Occasionally lines up in the slot and nicely adjusts to the errant throw to make the reception in stride.
Inconsistent in many areas of his game. At times looked uninterested in finishing blocks during his senior season. Marginally productive as a pass catcher last year.
Howard is a physical specimen with the ability to control each aspect of the tight end position when focused. Though he has All-Pro potential, he looked better during Senior Bowl practices then he did during his senior campaign which will raise red flags. If Howard plays to his level of ability on a consistent basis, he will have a long and productive NFL career.
