NFL Prospect Matchups: Auburn vs. Washington

It’s a matchup between the SEC and Pac-12 with national-title implications as Washington travels to Atlanta to take on Auburn. Looking at our board, it’s also a game that will field almost a dozen top-100 selections over the next two drafts. Here are some of the better prospect matchups to watch.

Hands down the top matchup pits Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham and his developing core of receivers against the talented Washington secondary.

Stidham made major strides last season, his first under center for Auburn. He’s a patient passer with next-level arm strength and NFL accuracy.

His top target is junior Darius Slayton, a legitimate deep threat who will be the focus of the UW secondary. Slayton has nice length and reliable hands.

Senior receivers William Hastings and Ryan Davis are smaller and slower but are incredibly quick athletes who find the clearing in underneath coverage and show ability after the catch.

The Huskies secondary could be the toughest unit Auburn faces this season.

The UW duo of JoJo McIntosh and Taylor Rapp are big, intimidating safeties who punish opponents over the middle of the field. Both are best defending the run and take advantage of opportunities when the ball is in the air.

Junior Myles Bryant is an explosive defensive back who’s constantly around the ball. He’s effective against the pass and voluntarily flies around the ball against the run.

Finally there’s Jordan Miller, one of my favorite cornerbacks in the country. When healthy last season (he suffered a serious leg injury in October against Arizona State), Miller displayed himself as a complete player at the position. He aggressively defends the run and shows terrific ball skills.

Our Washington preview goes up next week, but I’ll tell you this -- while scouts stamped Miller with a late-round grade, I believe he is a second-day prospect.
