NFL Prospect Matchups: Arizona St vs. Washington

An important Pac-12 matchup as north meets south. Washington hopes to keep the momentum going after a quality win over Utah. Arizona State was handed a tough loss by San Diego State last week and needs a victory in their conference opener.

The match-up in this contest pits the Washington secondary against N'Keal Harry and the rest of the receivers from ASU.

Opinions vary on Harry; he’s a terrific receiver who consistently wins out for the difficult reception but the question is whether he has the speed and quickness to separate at the next level.

While I struggle to see any burst or ability to separate in Harry’s game, those close to the situation tell me he’s a better athlete than advertised and he’ll run a fast 40 at the combine -- and I’m told he will enter the draft.

Washington’s secondary has been mentioned often on this site. Safety’s Taylor Rapp and JoJo McIntosh are fierce defenders who punish anyone that would dare cross between the numbers.

Jordan Miller is a terrific cover man but has been a bit slow returning to form after a serious leg injury ended his season last October.

Myles Bryant does a little bit of everything well as a nickel back.

Then there’s Byron Murphy, quite possibly the fastest-rising cornerback in the nation. Earlier this week, I was told scouts presently grade Murphy as the top defensive back in the Washington secondary and believe he’ll end up in the first round should he enter the draft.

Murphy is athletic, explosive and possesses terrific ball skills, showing the ability to make plays with his back to the ball. The redshirt sophomore falls a bit short on the measuring tape and his matchup against Harry, who stands 6-foot-3, will be a challenging one.
