NFL Prospect Matchups: Alabama vs Ole Miss

On paper, Alabama should win this game handily, as the Tide's offense has been incredibly explosive this season and Ole Miss doesn’t have the talent to stop it. But there is a tremendous battle in the trenches that scouts will closely monitor.

As is usually the case, Alabama has a lot of talent in the defensive front seven, including several prospects I project as early draft picks.

Raekwon Davis is a monster defensive lineman who can rush the passer, stop the run and occupy gaps. I expect Davis to enter the draft and be selected in the top half of Round 1.

Isaiah Buggs is slightly smaller and not as stout at the point but is a little better rushing the passer. He’s explosive off the snap, plays with great leverage and has a closing burst to the ball.

Stopping the duo will fall on the shoulders of Greg Little, our highest-rated offensive tackle and a prospect we expect to be a top-12 pick in next April’s draft.

Little is an excellent combination of size, mobility and fundamentals. He easily slides off the edge, effectively works his hands and controls opponents at the point. Though he’s more likely to be matched up against Buggs, it’s going to be a challenge all game for these three prospects.

There’s a lesser but still important battle on the inside.

Quinnen Williams, a fast-rising nose tackle prospect, is the next top interior defensive line prospect from the Alabama program. He offers size and power and has flashed big-time potential.

Javon Patterson doesn’t get the credit he deserves, but the Ole Miss guard is a terrific next-level prospect. Though he's best in a small area, Patterson is a tough, nasty blocker who controls defenders at the point.

Williams will be a handful for Patterson.
