Pos:
Large, athletic defensive tackle prospect with tremendous upside. Quick, explosive and plays with proper pad level. Resilient, keeps his feet moving and works his hands to shed blockers. Fluidly changes direction with the ability to immediately alter his angle of attack, easily redirects to ball carriers and has proven to be a disruptive force. Intense, stays with the action and makes a lot of athletic plays. Very athletics and possesses size and growth potential.
Neg:
Must develop more moves to get off blocks. Often tied up and blocks when he should not. Was never a dominant pass rusher at the small-school level.
Analysis:
Shepherd is an athletic defensive line prospect with a great deal of underlying athleticism and tremendous upside potential. He’ll need time to develop his game and improve his playing strength but if focused on the task at hand and properly coached, Shepherd should develop into a starter at the next level.
