Bio:
Junior college transfer who started for two seasons until an October foot injury ended his senior year after five games. Ranked second on the team in 2015 with 81 tackles (4.5 for loss), one sack and seven pass breakups. Made nine starts as a sophomore and recorded 63 tackles with one pass breakup.
Pos:
Aggressive, run-defending safety who must now return from a foot injury. Quick up the field, fires to the action and consistently makes positive plays on the ball. Explosive run defender who brings ball carriers down at the point of attack. Plays faster than his 40 time and shows good closing and recovery speed. Effectively times and anticipates pass defenses.
Neg:
Marginally instinctive in coverage. Lacks great lateral range. More of a downhill safety.
Analysis:
Entering the season McGee was graded as a potential late-round selection, yet the foot injury now makes him a medical risk. He’s a bit one-dimensional in his game but if healthy, he should be given an opportunity as a strong safety and special teams player.
