Bio:
Three-year starter who earned First Team All-American honors in 2016, posting 33 tackles (15 for loss), eight sacks and 10 quarterback hurries. Third Team All-American in 2015 after leading the SEC with 19.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks and five forced fumbles. Led Texas A&M with 14 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks and nine hurries as a true freshman in 2014, earning Second Team All-SEC and Freshman All-American honors.
Pos:
Impact defensive player who forces the action up the field. Breaks down well, plays with proper pad level and effectively uses his hands to protect himself. Fires off the snap, shows quickness in his all-around game and is very explosive. Breaks through blocks to get behind the line of scrimmage, consistently gets leverage on opponents and possesses a closing burst. Resilient, stays with the action and is rarely off his feet. Plays with balance, fights with his hands and at times is impossible to control. Fast off the edge, stays within his pass-rush angle and constantly disrupts the action, either sacking the quarterback or making the signal caller move from the pocket. Gives effort defending the run and gets results.
Neg:
Lacks bulk and subsequently gets engulfed by larger blockers. May struggle defending the run at the next level.
Analysis:
Garrett has been a forceful defender the past three years and is far and away the top player in the 2017 draft. He’s athletic and productive and is the type of player opponents will eventually have to game-plan around.
