Mock Draft: The Top 14

We are past the midway mark of the NFL season, so it’s time for another mock draft. This time we concentrate on the teams that have three wins or less.

1

New York Giants

Nick Bosa

DE

Ohio State

Analysis: Bosa ranks as the top player on our board, and the spread between him and the top-rated quarterback is miles apart. The Giants fill a need with a great player; just not a quarterback.

2

Oakland Raiders

Clelin Ferrell

DE/OLB

Clemson

Analysis: The Raiders have a lot of holes, some they recently created on their own. They need to replace the pass rush they’ve given away, and Ferrell is a good start.

3

Arizona Cardinals

Greg Little

OT

Mississippi

Analysis: The Cards drafted their quarterback of the future in April. Now they need to protect him.

4

Cleveland Browns

Ed Oliver

DT

Houston

Analysis: Oliver immediately upgrades the Browns defensive line.

5

Buffalo Bills

Rashan Gary

DE

Michigan

Analysis: The Bills need to get younger and better at defensive end. Gary does both.

6

San Francisco 49ers

Greedy Williams

CB

LSU

Analysis: Defensive line is a consideration here, but the 49ers have a boatload of first-rounders up front and need an upgrade at cornerback.

7

Green Bay Packers

Christian Wilkins

DL

Clemson

Analysis: I’d prefer to put more of a pure pass rusher in this spot, but Wilkins has the athleticism to line up as a 3-4 defensive end and get pressure up the field.

8

Jacksonville Jaguars

Justin Herbert

QB

Oregon

Analysis: I’m not a big believer in Herbert being a top-12 selection, but I firmly believe in Doug Marrone’s ability to develop a quarterback.

9

Tampa Bay Bucs

Devin White

LB

LSU

Analysis: White is a terrific three-down defender who immediately upgrades the Bucs' linebacker unit.

10

Indianapolis Colts

A.J. Brown

WR

Mississippi

Analysis: More help for Andrew Luck. The Colts receiver unit consists of TY Hilton and … little else.

11

Oakland Raiders (via Dallas Cowboys)

Deionte Thompson

S

Alabama

Analysis: The Raiders continue to load up on defense with a true free safety.

12

Detroit Lions

Zach Allen

DE

Boston College

Analysis: I have Allen rated earlier than most and believe he’s a complete, three-down lineman who can be used in multiple alignments and would be a great complement for Ziggy Ansah.

13

New York Jets

Josh Allen

OLB

Kentucky

Analysis: I’d much prefer an offensive tackle or big-time wide receiver, but none are available at this spot. Instead the Jets hope to solve their pass-rush woes with Allen.

14

Denver Broncos

Quinnen Williams

NT

Alabama

Analysis: Williams could ultimately go much earlier than 14, but he offers a major upgrade for the Broncos' defensive line.
