Pos:
Underrated ball carrier who played second fiddle at Ohio State but has the makings of a starting back at the next level. Strong, breaks multiple tackles and picks up a lot of yardage off initial contact. Displays outstanding footwork and the ability to bounce around piles and defenders to create yardage. Displays outstanding vision and instincts, finds running lanes and has a burst through the hole. Solid pass catcher out of the backfield. Helps quarterbacks sell ball fakes.
Neg:
Doesn’t move the pile. Lacks the agility and speed to turn the perimeter. After a sensational freshman season, was relegated to a situational back at Ohio State.
Analysis:
Despite not being a full-time starter for the Buckeyes, Weber has the physical skills and football ability to be a productive ball carrier in the NFL. He’s not a great back in space but is a tough, between-the-tackles ball carrier who can create yardage and be used as a receiver out of the backfield. I fully expect Weber to end up as a steal early in the third day of the draft.
