Bio:
First-year starter who tied for second in the AAC with five interceptions and tallied 46 tackles (4.5 for loss) and five pass breakups. Made 91 combined tackles (three for loss) with two interceptions -- both in 2013 -- and six PBUs during his first three seasons with Cincinnati.
Pos:
Nice-sized safety who has been very productive on the college level. Displays solid ball skills, effectively follows receivers everywhere on the field and consistently breaks up throws. Shows skill in deep coverage and reads the receiver’s eyes then gets his head back around and tracks the pass in the air. Shows good awareness in zone coverage, fires to the ball and possesses excellent hands for the interception. Aggressive run defender who physically attacks ball carriers.
Neg:
Instincts are questionable. Shows hesitation in his game. Not the greatest athlete.
Analysis:
Tyson was a playmaker as well as an opportunistic defensive back who helped put his team in position to win games. He has limitations, but Tyson could surprise at the next level as a traditional strong safety or in a zone system.
