First-year starter at tight end who finished second in the MAC behind Corey Davis with 16 receiving touchdowns and was named First Team All-MAC. Caught 45 passes for 533 yards after making 25 receptions for 299 yards and six touchdowns during his first three seasons.
Massive tight end with a developing game. Relatively athletic, quickly releases off the line into pass routes and runs well for such a big tight end. Imposing target, effectively finds the open spot in the underneath coverage and works to make himself an available target. Uses his frame to shield away defenders and protect the pass. Takes a big hit yet holds onto the throw. Strong blocker who stays square and easily controls opponents at the point of attack. Tough.
Very rough around the edges. Not a true downfield threat. Shows stiffness in his game.
After a career campaign last season, Roberts continued the momentum turning in brilliant performances during Shrine Game and Senior Bowl practices. He’s a three down tight end effective as a run or pass blocker, and stands out as a intermediate pass catcher. Roberts is not a true downfield threat and needs to smooth off the rough edges of his game yet in the proper system offers starting potential.
