Bio:
Two-year starter who was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten in both of those seasons. Made 83 tackles (17 for loss) with five sacks and earned an invitation to the Senior Bowl in 2017. Posted 75 tackles (13 for loss), 4.5 sacks, two interceptions and six pass breakups as a junior. Did not see action during the 2015 season after requiring a second surgery to fix a shoulder injury he previously underwent surgery on before spring practice.
Pos:
Productive two-year starter with potential as a two-down defender. Physical and aggressive but also instinctive. Quickly locates the ball, breaks down well and makes a lot of plays in the box and up the field. Fires through the gaps and displays solid change of direction. Moves well laterally and shows the ability to get outside the numbers. Forceful, sells out on the blitz and wraps up tackling.
Neg:
Stiff in his hips, slow in transition and struggles in coverage. Occasionally overcommits and gets caught out of position.
Analysis:
McCray offers solid size and is a strong linebacker who stacks well against the run. That being the case, he’s a scheme-specific player with limited upside.
